Simcha will be a featured speaker at an international event organised on November 17-18 2014 by the Japan Patent Office (JPO), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in co-operation with the European Patent Office, EUROSTAT, Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), National Science Foundation (NSF), United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Simcha will present research (co-authored with Hsini Huang of National Taiwan University) on how funding for public science is critical to sustaining an industrial R&D environment that is conducive to the successful commercialisation of intellectual property. The event will be held at Hotel Okura Tokyo and marks the 50th anniversary of Japan’s accession to the OECD. Japanese simultaneous translation of Simcha’s talk will be available.

The Conference on IP Statistics for Decision Makers has been held since 2003 in a different country each year under the cooperation of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), for the purpose that government officials and academic experts in each field gather together to exchange information and have discussions on intellectual property (IP) and economy as well as IP and statistics. This year marks the 12th conference.
Japan will host this conference for the first time this year, which is a part of 50th anniversary events for Japan as a member of the OECD. A keynote, panel discussions and academic paper presentations by experts from various countries, focusing on the role that IP plays in economic development and statistical information, will be addressed.
